Farm labourer sustains bullet injury miscreants open fire during car chase in Yamunanagar
Car-borne men fire three shots at rival group in Yamunanagar, injured farm labourer was caught in crossfire
A labourer sustained injuries after a group of four men allegedly fired multiple shots at another group in Yamunanagar’s Bilaspur on Tuesday evening.
The injured, identified as Gandhi, a native of Nepal, was having tea roadside after transplanting paddy at a nearby farm only to find himself in the crossfire. The four men were chasing the other group in their car.
Sharing further details, police said the injured was taken to civil hospital. He had sustained a bullet injury near his abdomen and referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh for further treatment.
Following the incident, the car being driven by the accused hit a tree and turned turtle in the fields next to Kapalmochan road.
Inspector Kewal, in-charge, Yamunanagar Crime Investigation Agency-1, said, “After the car overturned, the four men hid behind trees. Later, with the help of locals, police teams managed to apprehend three of them, while one managed to escape.”
The accused have been identified as Nitesh, Shubham, Simranpreet and Shivank.
Malkit Singh, 18, who was in the car being chased by the quartet, told the police that he was travelling towards Bilaspur with his friends, when the Karnal-registered car overtook them.
“Soon, one of them fired three shots, while their car also hit a cyclist before overturning,” he said in his complaint.
A case has been registered under section 279 (rash driving), 307 (attempt to murder), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Nitesh has been sent to a three-day police remand, while the other two arrested accused were sent to judicial custody. Shivank is yet to be arrested.
