The probe pertains to the non-payment of Goods and Services Tax under the reverse charge mechanism (RCM) on the upfront lease premium paid to the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).
The land was taken on a long-term lease for development purposes and the period under scrutiny spans from the financial year 2022–23 to 2025–26.
During the course of the investigation, the taxpayer voluntarily deposited ₹10 crore towards the alleged tax liability through the electronic cash ledger.
CGST officials said the recovery is part of a broader enforcement drive to strengthen compliance and curb tax evasion.
According to officials, Ludhiana has recovered ₹93 crore so far during the current financial year in tax evasion cases and further investigation is underway to determine the full liability, if any.
