As part of the Punjab government’s “Mission Hara Bhara Punjab” , the district administration has launched its offshoot mission Hara Bhara Ludhiana.

A “Haryali Van” has also been flagged off by Chetandeep Singh, who comes from a family of freedom fighters, in the presence of deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik and additional deputy commissioner Amit Panchal. The mission is being taken up in collaboration with local NGO Cityneeds.
On the occasion, a mobile number 828966979 was also released , which residents can use to get free saplings delivered to their doorstep through the Haryali Van.
Any city resident can give a missed call on the number, in response to which they will receive an automated message with a link which will redirect them to a form. In the form, they need to fill in details including number of saplings, saplings of their choice and address details.
A team of the district administration comprising officials from the forest department and municipal corporation will then deliver saplings straight to the resident’s doorstep and also assist them in plantation. The plants being offered include timber (sheesham or drek), fruits (gauva or jaamun), ornamental shrubs (kaner or hibiscus), medicinal (neem or amla) and shrubs (amaltas or bottle brush).
To make it more meaningful the minimum quantity of plants that can be requested is 15.
Before the flag off, 62 requests for saplings were received through this number and the team is gearing up to plant more than 700 saplings at 10 different sites in Ludhiana.
The saplings can also be booked online on www.cityneeds.info.
