Ludhiana: MC demolishes, seals 22 unauthorised structures

The municipal corporation (MC) on Wednesday demolished and sealed 22 unauthorised structures in various areas falling under Zone A and B of MC on Wednesday, including shops, labour quarters and an industrial unit.

On the directions of MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, assistant town planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh Honey, building inspectors Randhir Rana, Harvinder Singh and Harminder Makkar led the drive against illegal constructions in their respective areas.

ATP Harvinder stated that 10 illegal shops were demolished on Kakowal Road, which falls under Zone A of MC.

Five shops were demolished on Pippal Chowk to Gobindgarh Road (Dhandari), which falls under Zone B of MC. Further, an illegal colony which was being constructed in the area has also been demolished.

Four illegal labour quarters were sealed in Dhandari Khurd and Mundian Khurd area, which fall under Zone B of MC. Demolition proceedings would also be initiated against the four labour quarters which have been sealed on Wednesday, if the owners failed to remove the violations in the coming few days.

An under construction building comprising of labour quarters was also demolished on Gobindgarh Road.

ATP Harvinder stated that an illegal portion (frontline area) of an industrial unit was also demolished near Pippal Chowk in Dhandari area.

MC commissioner Sandeep Rishi stated that regular drives are being taken up against illegal constructions and the building branch officials have been directed to take stern action against the illegal activities.

Rishi added that the residents should construct the buildings as per the building bylaws. He also appealed to the residents to get the building plans approved from the civic body before commencing constructions works, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
