Ludhiana railway station to be developed at a cost of ₹465 crore

The Ludhiana railway station will go under a major transformation at the cost of ₹465 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Under the scheme, 508 railway stations across the country would be redeveloped.

Apart from Ludhiana, Jalandhar Cantt, Jammu Tawi, Ferozepur Cantt, Muktsar, Fazilka, Kotkapura, Dandari Kalan, Phillaur, Pathankot Junction, Gurdaspur, Udhampur, Badgam and Kapurthala are the other 13 railway stations of the Ferozepur Division which will be developed.

According to divisional railway manager (Ferozepur division) Sanjay Sahu, the upgrade of Ludhiana railway station will be undertaken at an estimated cost of ₹465 crore.

Under this project, an iconic station building is being constructed. The station will be linked with elevated road through U-shaped approach lanes to provide direct linkage to the vehicles to and from the second floor area. Thirty nine lifts and 28 escalators will be installed at the station to facilitate passengers to reach the platforms. Besides, there would be four new foot-over bridges, multi-level parking and several other facilities.

Union minister Som Parkash, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP in the Rajya Sabha Sanjeev Arora, along with MLAs, local leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and railway officials attended the function at Ludhiana railway station when Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country through video conferencing.

Addressing the gathering, MP Sanjay Arora thanked railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for including Ludhiana in the first phase of redevelopment of stations. Arora said that DRM Sanjay Sahu informed him that Ludhiana railway station would be completed by 2025.

“But, I have requested the government to get Ludhiana railway station completed by 2024 in the larger public interest,” he said.
