The police have issued a traffic diversion plan and deployed staff at the stretch for convenience of commuters.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, Operations) Sameer Verma said that apart from deploying police personnel from traffic police wing, 15 traffic marshals have also been roped in to maintain the movement of traffic.

As per the traffic diversion plan issued by the traffic police, heavy vehicles moving towards Focal Point from Delhi Highway will have to take turn towards Kohara from Sahnewal Chowk, then drive towards Focal Point either via road opposite Fortis Hospital or Veer Palace cut or Jamalpur Chowk on Chandigarh Road.

Heavy vehicles moving towards Delhi highway from Focal Point will have to take the road along Dhandari Bridge and drive via Yard Chowk, Sherpur Road, HP Computer Dharam Kanda, Delhi Highway service lane and take Delhi Highway from Cancer Hospital chowk.

The commuters travelling on light vehicles from Sherpur to Focal Point via Giaspura as well as those heading towards Sahnewal should travel via Pipal Chowk towards Jugiana.

The movement of traffic between the focal point and national highway was affected due to the closure of the bridge. City industrialists, vehicles supplying raw material to the industries had a tough time as they had to take alternate routes to reach their destinations.

Jagjit Singh, an industrialist, said that due to the ongoing projects in the city, the traffic moves at a snail’s pace. The authorities should complete one project before initiating another project. It will increase the pressure of vehicles on the road. Fuels and hours are being wasted in the jam-like situation that occurs on city roads at peak hours.

Akhil Bansal, a cycle parts industrialist, said that it took him at least one-and-a-half-hours to reach Focal Point in the morning due to congestion on the road due to project works.
