Ludhiana: Singer accuses promoter of sexual assault, fraud; booked

A Patiala-based music promoter has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a budding Punjabi singer and cheating her of ₹1.91 lakh after luring her with the promise of producing her music album, police said on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Rajvinder Singh from Bajwa Colony, Patiala.
According to the complaint, the victim, who had uploaded a few songs on YouTube and was undergoing formal music training, came in contact with the accused after he approached her over the phone, projecting himself as a music promoter. He allegedly offered to launch her career and produce her album, winning her confidence through repeated interactions.
The woman has alleged that Rajvinder Singh later called her to a relative’s house on the pretext of finalising recording arrangements, where he sexually assaulted her. She further claimed that the accused extorted ₹1.91 lakh from her in instalments, citing various production-related expenses, but never initiated any work on the promised album.
A complaint was lodged at Basti Jodhewal police station on September 17, 2025, following which an inquiry was conducted. After nearly five months of investigation, the police finally registered an FIR in the case.
