Three children – aged 10, 7, and 4 – died after their mother allegedly threw them into the Sirhind canal in Ropar on Tuesday before jumping into the water herself. While the children drowned immediately, the woman managed to swim to the bank and was arrested.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP, City-1) Gurcharan Singh said the woman remains in police custody and investigators are examining all aspects of the case. (HT File)
According to the police, the woman travelled from Mohali to Ropar with her children to take the extreme step.

While the bodies of two of the children have been recovered, search is on for the third.
