Ludhiana police file kidnapping case 10 days after 19-year-old goes missing
Police have lodged a kidnapping case after a 19-year-old man went missing under mysterious circumstances by the banks of the Sutlej River. The man's friends claim he jumped into the river after a phone call, but the family suspects foul play.
Ten days after a 19-year-old man went missing under mysterious circumstances, the Ladhowal police lodged a kidnapping case against unidentified accused.
The man had gone to the banks of Sutlej River with his two friends on June 27, but did not return. However, his friends returned to their homes.
The victim has been identified as Gurmanjot Singh, 19, of Khaira Bet village. He was scheduled to go to Canada on August 30.
The FIR was lodged on Sunday on the complaint of Jagjeet Singh, father of the victim, who runs an auto parts workshop. Jagjeet stated that his son had gone to the river with his two friends, Gursimran and Gurraj Singh, on June 27.
Gursimran and Gurraj returned home in the evening, but Gurmanjot did not. When asked, the duo stated that while they were standing at the banks of the river, Gurraj talked to someone over a phone call and then jumped into the river. Gursimran rushed towards the village to call someone for help. He said that when Gursimran returned at the banks of the river, he did not find Gurmanjot at the spot. Though, with the help of unidentified persons, he managed to rescue Gurraj from the river.
The family of victim searched him in the river for at least six days with the help of divers and even a team of NDRF but could not find anything.
The complainant suspected that someone had kidnapped his son and murdered him. He also said that his son’s two friends know something about Gurmanjot, which they were hiding.
Sub inspector Gurmeet Singh, who is investigating the case, said that the police have registered a case under sections 365 (kidnapping) of the IPC against unidentified accused.
