In Chandigarh, a 34-year-old female pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle on the Sector 33/34 dividing road.

The deceased, Khushboo, was a resident of Sector 34-C.

Her husband, Dharmendra Kumar, 39, told police that he, along with his wife and eight-year-old daughter Shreyashi, was walking towards Sector 45. Khushboo and Shreyashi were walking ahead of him, when a motorcyclist coming from Sectors 33/34/44/45 roundabout hit Khushboo, tossing her in the air and causing grievous injuries.

He managed to apprehend the biker, who identified himself as Satinder Singh of Mohali.

A passer-by helped rush Khushboo to GMCH, Sector 32, where she died during treatment. ASI Jasbir Singh from the Sector 34 police station said the accident victim was already admitted to GMCH emergency when the police were informed about the accident.

Satinder was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police recovered the motorcycle from the accident scene. The accused was arrested and later released on bail.

Later on Monday evening, a rashly driven truck ran over two motorcyclists on the Banur-Landran road in Mohali.

While the victims died on the spot, the truck driver managed to flee.

The duo was identified as Harjit Singh, 40, alias Kaka, and Gurmajor Singh, alias Major, 36, residents of Tangori village, Mohali. They used to repair air-conditioners together.

They were being followed by Harjit’s brother Jagjit Singh on another motorcycle.

Jagjit complained to the police that they all left their village on Monday evening on two motorcycles, when a rashly driven truck, headed from Kharar towards Banur, rammed into his brother’s motorcycled head-on, crushing both Harjit and Gurmajor.

Police impounded the truck and identified its driver as Ram Babu, hailing from Chhapra, Bihar, who was booked under Sections 279, 304-A and 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC at the Sohana police station.

While Major was unmarried, Harjit is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old son.
