PU relents to students’ demands on issuing DMCs for SC/ST students
Comes after the members of ASA, a student association, protested outside V-C’s office, demanding that the degrees and DMCs of SC/ST students of Punjab covered under PMS scheme be released
Relenting to the demands of Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), Panjab University (PU) on Monday said a grievance redressal committee has resolved the issue and a revised notification for issuing the detailed mark sheet (DMC) and photocopy of degrees will be issued on priority basis.

This comes after the members of ASA, who have been protesting outside vice-chancellor (V-C) Raj Kumar’s office for a few days, demanded that the degrees and DMCs of scheduled caste (SC) students of Punjab covered under post-matric scholarship (PMS) scheme be released. The student body had stated that many such students have to face problems in getting their final DMCs and degrees.
The Punjab government owes around ₹21 crore to the varsity under the PMS scheme. The students of ASA have maintained that students should not suffer because of a monetary matter between PU and the state.
The students’ demand included implementation of PMS for the students of Haryana as well and hostel accommodation to SC/ST students. To address the issue of hostel accommodation, a committee has been constituted. The varsity said a student representative of ASA will be included in the committee constituted for rooms’ allocation in hostels of PU.
Moreover, a sub-committee has been constituted to initiate the implementation of post-matric fellowship for Haryana students on the pattern of Punjab. PU has also said the varsity authorities have already communicated to Haryana government, its position regarding the proposed policy of the PMS scholarship scheme keeping in view the financial aspect, the response from the state is still awaited.
Meanwhile, ASA in its statement said that they are still on the indefinite protest. “We have received the information that PU has decided to issue a fresh notice for releasing the DMCs/degrees of SC students of Punjab. But we are waiting for the notification to be issued and a proposal of PU to the Government of Haryana for implementation of the PMS scheme,” the student body said.
