Chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday announced that due to dense fog in the morning, all government and private schools in Punjab will open at 10am.

“Due to the dense fog in the state, in view of the health and safety of school students and teachers, from December 21 to January 21, the opening time of all government, aided, recognised and private schools will be 10am. The closing time will be the same as earlier,” Mann tweeted.
The announcement of new school timings was made on a day dense fog affected visibility in many parts of the state. Bathinda was the coldest place in Punjab with the mercury settling at a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar also experienced a cold night with a low of 6.8 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius, Ferozepur 6.3 degrees Celsius, Pathankot 5.8 degrees and Gurdaspur 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Chandigarh recorded a low of 7.6 degrees Celsius.
The weather department said cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab, while dense to very dense fog is likely at most places over the next 4-5 days.
