The DGP said all commissioners of police and district superintendents of police have been directed to ensure elaborate security arrangements on January 26 at all important venues where functions will be held.

All roads leading to Republic Day function venues are being monitored with the strengthening of nakas (checkpoints) and surprise checking.

Additional forces have been deployed to deal with any untoward incident.

Police officials have been directed to ensure smooth traffic arrangements besides keeping a close watch on sensitive locations and tracking unclaimed vehicles, articles and suspicious persons.

Apart from patrolling and checking at vital points, special drives are being carried out in trains and public transport and vigil has been stepped up at busy markets, bus stands and railway stations. Hotels, guesthouses, parking lots and restaurants are also being checked.

Checking of vehicles, particularly at night, has been increased.

The DGP urged people to report suspicious persons or articles, if any, to the police.
