Three held for making extortion calls in Haryana’s Kaithal

KARNAL: The Kaithal police have arrested three people for allegedly running a racket and extorting money from people on social media groups. The accused have been identified as Parghat Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Jagdeep Singh, all residents of Cheeka village of Kaithal district. Kaithal superintendent of police (SP) Maqsood Ahmed said that they had got a complaint from a local contractor alleging that some unidentified miscreants made a WhatsApp call to him and demanded 10 lakh as extortion money. They threatened him with dire consequences. The SP said that acting on his complaint, the police registered an FIR and started the investigation. The police team managed to trace the accused. Police have also recovered the mobile phone from them, he said. The accused were produced in court, which sent them to judicial custody.

Rohtak: Rajya Sabha member Deepender Hooda flagged off five buses in Jind district in the presence of Congress leader and social activist Baljit Singh Redhu on Wednesday. The buses will pick up and drop girls from various villages to their colleges in Jind. “Girls from humble backgrounds used to drop out of educational institutes due to poor bus connectivity. Cop dies by suicide at Haryana Police Academy

KARNAL: A Haryana police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his quarter at Haryana Police Academy in Madhuban, Karnal, the police said on Wednesday. The police said that the deceased was posted in the 4th Battalion of the police academy. He also left a suicide note and has mentioned that he was under depression after losing 17 lakh in online gambling. Investigation Officer ASI Parveen Kumar said that the cop’s body has been sent for the post-mortem.
