Woman kills husband, body retrieved from 25-feet deep toilet pit almost month after crime
The woman continued to stay at the same house with her two sons, 13 and 11 year of age, police said. The children were not aware of the incident and helped their mother fill the pit.
The police have arrested a 35-year-old woman, who along with her aide, allegedly killed her husband and took the help of her minor children to bury the body in a 25-feet pit dug in their house at Bakshiwala village in Sangrur’s Sunam.
The woman continued to stay at the same house with her two sons, 13 and 11 year of age, police said. The children were not aware of the incident and helped their mother fill the pit.
The woman, identified as Rajji Kaur (35) and her aide Surjit Singh (45), strangulated Amrik Singh (40) on October 27. The dead body was dug out on Saturday almost a month after the murder. Both the accused have been arrested, police added. The accused and the victim knew each other and worked together as labourers.
The incident came to the fore late Friday night when the woman revealed the crime to cops during the investigation.
Cops said that the woman got a pit dug by labourers on the pretext of using it as a makeshift toilet. However, after the crime and filling the pit, the woman got another pit dug to avoid suspicion.
Inspector Yadwinder Singh, SHO of Cheema police station, said, “The accused were in a relationship, and they conspired to murder the husband.”
He said that on October 27, she gave sleeping pills to her husband by mixing them in the chicken she had cooked. Later, she called her aide, and both strangulated the victim and threw the body in the pit and covered the dead body with soil.
“Next morning, she took the help of her children, aged 11 and 13, to fill the pit. A few days later, she also got the new pit dug. Later, on November 20, she lodged a missing complaint of her husband with police,” the SHO said.
Police have registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy against the accused and started further investigations.
