25 acres of dry vegetation gutted in Rajghat fire

A massive fire near Rajghat bus depot spread across 25 acres but was controlled after three hours; no injuries or property loss reported.

NEW DELHI:A massive fire broke out in dry vegetation near Outer Ring Road close to Rajghat bus depot on Sunday afternoon, spreading across nearly 25 acres, police and the fire department said.

Police said they received a PCR call reporting the blaze in a jungle area under Darya Ganj police station jurisdiction around 1:36 pm. A police team rushed to the spot and alerted the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), which began firefighting operations.

According to DFS officials, the call was regarding a “bushes and rubbish” fire and the first units were dispatched at 1:35 pm. A total of 11 fire tenders were deployed.

Police said the fire was brought under control and a “stop” message was issued at 4:35 pm after nearly three hours.

Preliminary probe suggests the fire appears to have been triggered by dry grass in the open area. “No loss of life or property has been reported, and no foul play is suspected at this stage,” a senior police officer said, adding that investigation is underway.
