In the first case, Kota superintendent of police, Keshar Singh, said two students who were residents of Bihar were found dead in their rented accommodation on Monday morning. While one of the students was 19-years-old, the other was 18 and they were undertaking coaching at a private institute.

“The two were Class 11 students and staying in different rooms of the same paying guest accommodation for the past six months. We are trying to find out whether they were friends or not. The death by suicide came to light when the house owner informed the police control room,” he said.

According to Singh, the house owner first found that one of the boys had not come out of his room onMonday morning. After several knocks on the door, the owner broke down the door and found the boy dead, said the SP.

The same afternoon, the second boy’s body was discovered in his room by his sister.

“He was staying in the room next to the first boy. When he did not open the door, it was forced open and he was also found...” the SP said.

Police said no suicide notes were found on either of the boys and their mobiles are being checked for more information. “The two were living in Kota for the past three years and they probably died by suicide last night after having dinner. The second boy had also called his sister last night(Sunday),” police said.

In the second incident, a 17-year-old student, a resident of Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, was found dead in a corridor of his rented accommodation in the city on Sunday night. According to Kunadi police station in-charge, Ganga Sahay Sharma, the boy is suspected to have consumed a poisonous substance and he succumbed during treatment at a local hospital.

The SHO said the boy was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical college admissions was staying in Kota for two years.

“Last night (Sunday), he was found unconscious in the gallery of the rented accommodation and was spotted by another student who had come there to fill water. He informed the hostel owner who took him a hospital where he was later declared dead,” said SHO Sharma.

The SHO added that no suicide note was recovered from the boy but they found rat poison.

Kota is the country’s biggest coaching hub for admissions to premier engineering and medical colleges.

Last month, a 16-year-old student from Uttarakhand allegedly died by suicide inside his room in a rented accommodation. In July, a 16-year-old Andaman and Nicobar resident who was a NEET aspirant also died by suicide.

In wake of such cases, the state government is planning to bring a bill on regulating coaching institutes. The Bill has provisions to make it mandatory for coaching institutes to admit students on the basis of an aptitude test, no glorification of students performing well in entrance examinations for professional courses and mandatory audit of balance sheets of the coaching institutes.
