Light showers with thunderstorm lash Delhi-NCR: Latest Updates

Delhi rain: RWFC on Wednesday predicted light to moderate intensity rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm in some parts of Delhi.

A fresh spell of moderate intensity showers battered several parts of the national capital Delhi and its adjoining areas on Wednesday, bringing a much needed respite from the scorching summer.

Meanwhile the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) Delhi on Wednesday predicted light to moderate intensity rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm in some parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas during the evening hours.

The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday forecasted light intensity showers over a few places in Delhi-NCR including Dwarka, Palam, Haryana's Gurugram, Bahadurgarh, UP's Khurja, Garhmukteshwar, and others.

The weather agency tweeted, “Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of a few places of Delhi (Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR (Bahadurgarh, Gurugram, Ballabhgarh) Nuh (Haryana) Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Khurja, Gabhana, Jattari (UP)Tizara, Alwar, Nagar, Nadbai (Rajasthan) during next 2 hours.”

So far, Delhi has received a total rainfall of 79.5mm — an excess over June’s long-period average (LPA) of 74.1mm. This also puts Delhi in the “surplus rain” category this month. This is the first time in three years that the June LPA was surpassed — after 85mm rain was recorded in June 2020, when the LPA was 65.5mm.

The met department had also issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rains in the national capital for Friday. HT reported. Meanwhile, Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 86, as per Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) national bulletin at 4pm on Tuesday. This puts the AQI in the “satisfactory” category for a third consecutive day.

The monsoon arrived in Delhi on Sunday, two days before its scheduled onset, bringing respite to Delhiites from the scorching heat.
