The deputy CM gave the order while reviewing several infrastructure projects during a meeting of the expenditure finance committee. Sisodia holds both finance and PWD portfolios.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the Delhi government said that 35,000 CCTV cameras will be installed across the city by December this year, as part of a project to place a total of 280,000 cameras at market places, residential colonies and roads. In the first phase of the project that kicked off in June 2019, the government has already installed 140,000 CCTV cameras. The second phase began in September 2021.

“The installation of CCTV cameras on PWD roads will strengthen road safety as well as help in regular maintenance of roads. Sisodia has directed the PWD to set up an integrated control center for monitoring the footage from these cameras,” the statement said.

The government added that it will complete work on installing 500 high-mast tricolours in the city before August 15. It added that 497 such flags have already been installed.

The government further said that half of the work on the double decker flyover project between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura has been completed, and added that it will be ready by the end of 2023. Under this project a unique 1.4-kilometer flyover is being built on the upper deck of a Metro line. “This project is an engineering marvel and shows the way for better utilisation of spaces to create public transport where population density is high,” the statement added.
