The police said they were married to different people. An accidental death report was filed.

Krishna Warke and Neelam Bhoir, a domestic help, lived in Adivasi Pada in Kandivli (East). According to the police, they got into a relationship around six months ago.

Recently, their spouses got to know about their extramarital affair.

This led to arguments between Bhoir’s and Warke’s families, said the police. The couple hanged themselves in Janupada forest, near their house.

Around 10pm on Friday, Bhoir’s brother Mangesh saw their bodies hanging from a tree.

“They used a nylon rope, tied it to a branch and hanged themselves. There were no signs of foul play. No suicide note was found,” said Sudhakar Humbe, inspector at Samta Nagar police station.

Warke had two daughters aged six and four. Bhoir had been married for two years but was unhappy in the relationship.

The police recorded the statements of Bhoir’s husband and Warke’s wife, and will record those of their friends and acquaintances to ascertain if they had discussed their relationship with them.
