GMDA survey flags infra gaps, encroachments on 7 Gurugram road stretches

Audit of sectors 58–115 finds broken footpaths, C&D dumping, missing drains and unsafe parking; gaps to be fixed on priority, officials say

A survey by the planning wing of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) across seven roads from sectors 58 to 115 has flagged widespread deficiencies in road infrastructure, highlighting gaps in planning, maintenance and enforcement, officials said.

The report, submitted as a detailed presentation, identified broken footpaths, missing drainage, encroachments and poorly maintained green belts across multiple stretches. On the dividing roads between sectors 62/63 and 64/65, officials found large-scale dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste along roadsides and green belts, along with incomplete service roads, drainage systems and green belts.

The survey also noted unauthorised cuts in service roads; encroachments by vendors, including eateries, kiosks and temporary shelters; and unregulated parking of buses, cars and two-wheelers on carriageways and service lanes, reducing effective road width and increasing congestion and safety risks.

On master sector roads of sectors 47/49 and 47/50, the report stated, “Encroachment on footpaths, damaged footpaths, unauthorised parking, unauthorised cuts, need to give more space to slip roads, and encroachment on footpaths by street vendors and petrol pumps.”

In newer sectors 84/85 and 85/86, large stretches lack basic infrastructure such as footpaths, green belts and service roads, with some portions entirely unconstructed. The report flagged garbage dumping, encroachments, unauthorised construction in green belts, damaged central verges, stray cattle and instances of sewer overflow.

A senior GMDA official said the survey was directed by GMDA CEO PC Meena to identify gaps for priority resolution. “The report by planning wings has identified key problems, and these would be resolved on priority in a regulated manner,” he said. A GMDA spokesperson added, “The issues flagged… are discussed… and directions are issued to take corrective measures… to ensure safe commuting for pedestrians.”
