According to officials, the FIR was registered at Vrindavan police station on a complaint by the superintendent in-charge of the protection home against five named and other unidentified inmates under sections 191(2) (provoking riot), 103(1) (murder), 238(a) (causing disappearance of evidence), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The deceased had joined the protection home in June this year. She was found dead in the bathroom on Friday, following which her body was sent for autopsy. The report cited drowning as the cause of death. Police said CCTV footage provided crucial leads, showing three girls entering the bathroom but only two coming out.

Police suspect the girl was forced into a water-filled bucket and drowned. No injury marks were found on her body, officials said. The inmates allegedly attempted to conceal the crime and mislead the police after the body was found.

Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar, after visiting the protection home on Saturday, said the 14-year-old was allegedly killed by at least two of her co-inmates.

“During interrogation, two of the girl inmates, both aged 15 years, confessed to killing the 14-year-old girl. A case was registered for murder on the complaint of the in-charge there, and correspondence has been initiated for a magisterial inquiry into the incident,” the SSP said.

According to police sources, the accused girls told investigators that they believed the incident would lead to the closure of the protection home and their release. The two accused girls hail from Aligarh and Pilibhit. The deceased was from Bareilly, while one of the accused was from Aligarh and the other from Pilibhit.
