LUCKNOW The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained the prestigious Ayodhya Sadar assembly seat, but lost two out of five seats in the district to the Samajwadi Party (SP).

In the 2017 polls, the saffron party had won all the five assembly seats.
Ved Prakash Gupta, BJP’s sitting MLA from Ayodhya Sadar, defeated Samajwadi Party’s Tej Narayan Pandey by a margin of 19,990 votes.
Gupta bagged 1,13,414 votes against Pandey’s 93,424 votes.
Rudauli and Bikapur were the other two assembly seats that the BJP won.
Ram Chandra Yadav of the BJP won the Rudauli assembly seat for the third consecutive time by bagging 94,031 votes. He defeated the Samajwadi Party’s Anand Sen Yadav who secured 53,415 votes.
Amit Chauhan of the BJP won the Bikapur assembly seat by securing 1,07,268 votes. Firoz Khan of the SP stood second by bagging 1,0,1708 votes.
Abhay Singh of the Samajwadi Party won from Gosainganj assembly seat by bagging 1,05,863 votes. He defeated BJP’s Arti Tewari who secured 92,784 votes.
Awadhesh Prasad of the Samajwadi Party won Milkipur assembly seat by securing 1,03,905 votes. He defeated BJP’s sitting MLA Baba Gorakhnath who secured 90,567 votes.
