‘Latest FDR tech to be used in constructing rural roads in UP’
Two roads each in Prayagraj, Hamirpur and one each in Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Agra, Hathras and Mainpuri districts have been selected for the project, said Bhanu Chandra Goswami, CEO, Uttar Pradesh Rural Roads Development Agency
Rural roads across the state under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana will now be constructed by using the latest full depth reclamation (FDR) technology. Around 5600 km stretch of the road in rural parts of Uttar Pradesh will be constructed with the use of this technology.
To start with, two roads each in Prayagraj, Hamirpur and one each in Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Agra, Hathras and Mainpuri districts have been selected for the project. Giving this information, Bhanu Chandra Goswami, CEO, Uttar Pradesh Rural Roads Development Agency (UPRRDA), said first road in the state to be constructed using this technology was in Chitrakoot where the construction work had already begun. The UPRRDA is a body of the Uttar Pradesh government.
“Around 17.900 km road with a cost of ₹17 crore using the full depth reclamation technology is being constructed in Chitrakoot district,” said Goswami. “The road will connect two main roads, 22 hamlets and eight gram panchayats. It will benefit a population of around 30,000,” he added.
The full depth reclamation is a pavement rehabilitation technique which is far superior to the traditional technique of road construction. Roads constructed with this technique are long lasting, cost effective and are also water resistant to a large extent as compared to roads constructed with traditional method using charcoal. In this technique, existing stone base of the road is used with other construction material.
