The five-member committee formed to determine the educational qualification had sent its report to the state government for consideration and approval in May 2023 on the prescribed educational and equivalent qualifications for selections on subject-wise posts. But even after five months, the report has not been approved.

So, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is not issuing advertisements for the recruitments as it is unable to advertise the prescribed qualification for the posts needed in the notification.

Due to this, recruitment is not being done against 10,322 vacant posts of teachers that exist in government secondary schools of the state impacting imparting of education to thousands of school students, say state secondary education department officials aware of the matter.

Earlier, advertisement for the recruitment of LT grade teachers against 10,768 posts in government-run secondary schools had come out on March 15, 2018. More than two-and-a-half-thousand posts were left vacant in it and the selection process of the waitlisted candidates is still going on.

The advertisement for recruitment for 1.473 posts of lecturer likewise last came out on December 22, 2020. However, there was a dispute regarding the eligibility conditions of some subjects, including Hindi, in LT recruitment and some candidates approached the Allahabad high court.

This is the reason why this time the UPPSC has asked the officers of the state secondary education department to clarify the equivalence of qualifications before issuing a fresh advertisement for the recruitments so that there is no dispute later on in it, officials say.

Avnish Pandey, president, Pratiyogi Chatra Sangharsh Samiti, a body representing students preparing for competitive exams, said the delay was not just delaying the recruitment process but also causing hardships to aspirants preparing for it for years. “Any further delay means that the uncertainty that thousands of aspirants are facing continues and undermines all their efforts,” he added.
