₹11,000-crore investment proposals for three aspirational districts: Yogi

Balrampur, Bahraich and Shravasti will get rid of the backward district tag and be counted among the developed districts of UP, says chief minister

LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath said Balrampur, Bahraich, Shravasti and Gonda districts in the Devipatan division of UP were fast shedding the ‘backward district tag’ with the launch of development projects in the last six years.

“Three aspirational districts - Balrampur, Bahraich and Shravasti - have received investment proposals worth ₹11,000 crore during the recently held Global Investors’ Summit. They will get rid of the backward district tag and be counted among the developed districts of UP,” he said addressing a press conference after the review of development projects in Gonda district.

Adityanath said the double engine government was working sensitively and actively for the development of UP.

“Six years ago, in terms of per capita income, Gautam Buddh Nagar was at the top and Balrampur at the bottom while Gonda was lagging behind in cleanliness. But in the last six years, all four districts have come a long way by working in a positive direction. Positive initiatives were taken to enhance per capita income, improve public conveniences as well as boost tourism and development,” he said.

The CM said the construction of medical colleges in the districts was moving towards completion. “In its annual budget (2023-24), the UP government has proposed to establish Maa Pateshwari University in the Devipatan division. District administration officers have been directed to expedite the acquisition of land for the university,” he added.

The construction of airport in Shravasti district was also in its final stages. It would have air connectivity with various cities across the state while instructions had been issued to officers to connect every district HQ with ring road as well as to speed up other development works, added the CM.

Adityanath said measures had been taken to connect the youth with the schemes of the central and state governments and to provide benefits of government schemes to the farmers. “The government’s projects are giving encouraging results, and soon, backward districts will be among the leading districts of the state,” he emphasised.

The CM also announced the opening of an information department office in Gonda. “The construction of a university and a medical college, along with implementation of the National Education Policy, introduction of quality education and state-of-the-art facilities will take the youth forward on the path of progress,” he added.

He also directed public representatives and officers of the four districts to accelerate the progress of development projects and welfare schemes.
