Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board, Vinay Kumar Tripathi on Sunday said the trains having high passenger pressure should be fitted with additional coaches. Speaking in a review meeting held to increase Railways’ revenue at North Eastern Railways (NER) headquarters, Gorakhpur, Tripathi said, “To promote parcel traffic, a plan for ‘door-to-door’ delivery should be implemented. The suggestions made by the officers in the review meetings should be implemented to increase the revenue.”

General manager, NER, Anupam Sharma said the suggestion given by the chairman and CEO, Railway Board, to increase railway revenue would be implemented. Principal chief commercial manager Sanjay Tripathi presented a detailed report of the work being done to increase railway revenue and future plans through a power point presentation. He gave a detailed description of the materials being loaded from NER stations.
“In the current fiscal, ₹89 crore revenue has been earned and ₹100 crore target will be achieved by the end of the financial year. Additional stations are being identified for parcel handling. The new goods sheds are being developed to provide facilities as per the demand of railway consumers,” he said.
Later the Railway Board chairman inspected the training laboratories at the multidisciplinary methodology training centre. “There is a need to make railway workers more efficient by giving them better training. The training will make railway personnel more efficient. It will also reduce dependence on annual maintenance contracts being executed by private agencies besides saving revenue. The failures in the field should be included in the training course as a case study. It will check recurrence of similar failures,” he said.
Interacting with trainees at the training centre, he said, “Effort should be on increasing knowledge and skills. The field supervisors are the pillars of railways. Sincerity and hard work are the top requirement for railway workers. It will pave way for safe transportation of passengers and goods. The knowledge of new technology and skills is necessary for those working in this field,” Tripathi said.
