Lawyer shot dead outside home in Kushinagar village

Lawyer Kamlesh Singh, son of a zila panchayat member, was shot dead near his residence in Kushinagar district. Police suspect a rival family member.

The son of a zila panchayat member of Khagi Mundera in Kushinagar district, was shot dead near his residence in the village, police said, adding they suspected the role of a member of a rival family in the murder.

Officials were of the view that the murder could be due to an ongoing rivalry between Radha Krishna Singh and another ex-village head Dharmendra Paswan, who has been named in the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father. (For representation)

While Kamlesh Singh, 42, was a lawyer by profession, his mother Jamuwanti Devi is the zila panchayat member of the village, and father Radha Krishna a former village head, the Hata police said.

Station in-charge Nirbhay Singh said the incident took place around 8 pm on Saturday when Kamlesh was talking to his neighbour. He was rushed to a community health centre where he was declared brought-dead.

Officials were of the view that the murder could be due to an ongoing rivalry between Radha Krishna Singh and another ex-village head Dharmendra Paswan, who has been named in the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father.

SP-Kushinagar Dhawal Jaiswal rushed to the spot and said that two teams had been deputed for the arrest of the accused.

The officials added that the deceased’s brother, Anirudh, was himself a murder accused and had come back to his village on bail a month ago.

Former minister and Samajwadi Party leader Radhey Shyam Singh, meanwhile, demanded that the accused’s house be bulldozed, or else party workers would stage a dharna at the district magistrate’s office.
