Men on bike snatch Rs2L from woman

According to police, the incident took place around 2.30 pm when the woman victim, a resident of Krishna Colony, was walking towards her house and had reached near Tikona Park crossing.

An elderly woman in her early 70s was robbed of Rs2 lakh by two men on a motorcycle when she was returning home after withdrawing money from a bank in New Colony Wednesday. Police said the suspects were wearing helmets and had conducted a reconnaissance of the area before targeting her.

According to police, the incident took place around 2.30 pm when the woman victim, a resident of Krishna Colony, was walking towards her house and had reached near Tikona Park crossing.

A police official privy to the investigation, requesting anonymity, said the woman had withdrawn 2 lakh cash from her account in a public sector bank and was carrying it in a bag.

“The suspects came on a motorcycle, a Royal Enfield, and snatched the bag from her. The registration number of the motorcycle has been traced to Thanesar in Kurukshetra. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused men,” said the official.

Police said the victim was unhurt in the snatching.

A case was registered against the suspects under sections 379-A (punishment pertaining to snatching) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code at New Colony police station on Wednesday, police said.
