Morinda SAD president, 3 family members killed as car falls in rivulet
Passersby managed to get a tractor to pull the car out of the rivulet and took Kang, Kuldeep and Navdeep to the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib and Ibadat to the civil hospital in Morinda, where doctors said they had died.
Major Harjit Singh Kang (retd), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader from Morinda, his wife, daughter-in-law and granddaughter were killed when the car he was driving fell into a rivulet near Garanga village on Sunday.
Kang, aged 65, his wife Kuldeep Kaur, 62, daughter-in-law Navdeep Kaur, 32, and his grand-daughter Ibadat Kaur, 12, were returning home from a wedding in Zirakpur when the accident took place near the Chunni-Morinda road, police said. The reason why Kang could have lost control of the car, a black Ford Figo, is being investigated.

Kang’s son works with Philips in Mumbai. Navdeep, his wife, had come over to Morinda with their daughter to visit her in-laws.
Gharuan police officials have initiated inquest proceedings in the case under section 174 of CrPc and have informed other family members about the mishap. Statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded.
