Court sentences man to 10 years for double murder

The Kalyan Criminal Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a double murder case of 2010 registered at Mahatma Phule police station

Thane The Kalyan Criminal Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a double murder case of 2010 registered at Mahatma Phule police station.

The murders took place in 2010, when the accused identified as Sanjay Patil, 37, and his friend Manoj Khandke, 37, (now deceased), resident of Ramdasvadi, had killed Ashok Devkar, 40 and Krushna Devkar, 32, resident of same area, over past enmity.

The two groups fought amongst many a times, finally resulting in the murder of Devkar brothers.

An officer from Mahatma Phule police station said, “The accused had planned the murder of the two brothers to avenge an earlier fight. In 2010, when the brothers were outside their building, the two accused stabbed them to death and later fled the spot. Our officials had nabbed the two and filed a chargesheet in the court. During the process of trial, the second accused Khandke met with a natural death last year.”

Officer further added, “ The evidence, statement of the witnesses, technical details and cross questioning of the Public Prosecutor Ashwini Patil, were so efficient that the court has awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to Patil and also appreciated the investigation team.”
