Mumbai: Maharashtra on Sunday recorded its lowest single-day tally of Covid-19 cases since April 2020 with 362 new positive reports. The state added three fatalities, taking the overall death toll to 143,740. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 43 cases with 0.2% positivity rate, which is lowest since March 2020, according to Iqbal Chahal municipal commissioner, BMC.

The state’s active case count too has dropped under 4000-mark to 3,709 on Sunday. Mumbai on Sunday reported one Covid-19 death after reporting zero deaths consecutively for nine days.
The overall Covid-19 toll tally stood at 16,692 on Sunday. So far, the city did not report any Covid-19 deaths in March. The city’s recovery rate is 98%, and the mortality rate is 1.60%. There are 519 active cases in the city.
In the last 24 hours, the state tested 66,698 samples and had a positivity rate of 0.54%. Overall, the state had tested 7,82,81,255 samples and had an overall positivity rate of 10.05%. A chunk of the state’s fresh cases on Sunday came from Pune district with Pune city reporting 83 cases, Pune rural adding 48 cases, and Pimpri-Chinchwad clocking 21 cases.
State health department officials said that Maharashtra would see fewer and fewer cases in the coming weeks. “The third wave is almost gone now; over the next few weeks, we will see scattered cases. The deaths reported too, have reduced considerably over the last some weeks,” an official said, requesting anonymity.
The official added that viral activity is still active due to the Omicron variant, but to a smaller degree than before. Maharashtra also reported 61 new cases of Omicron variant, taking the total tally to 5,726 across the state.
Out of these, 4,733 have been discharged following a negative RT-PCR test. Of the new cases reported on Sunday, 44 were from Pune city, eight from Pimpri Chinchwad, and nine from Pune rural, the data from the health department said.
