The accused, Mohammad Junaid Izhar Khan, met the woman on Snapchat two years ago. The two had been in a relationship for the past year, during which Khan proposed marriage. Though the woman initially agreed, she later changed her decision.
On January 5, Khan learnt that the woman was getting engaged to someone else, following which he began allegedly harassing and stalking her.
He visited her residence and threatened her father and cousin, demanding they call off her engagement. “Khan said he would not let anyone live if they refused,” she said.
Despite efforts by her family to counsel him, Khan allegedly continued to threaten her and tried to defame her by posting photographs of her relatives on social media.
The Kurar police have booked Khan under section 79 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for outraging the woman’s modesty.
