In order to make it easier for citizens to get jabbed near their homes, the Corporation set up around 111 immunisation centres (Praful Gangurde)

“Thanks to proper planning, teamwork and cooperation, we have been able to achieve this target. Time-to-time awareness campaigns, various initiatives such as vaccination drives close to beneficiaries’ houses- all played a major role,” said municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

In order to make it easier for citizens to get jabbed near their homes, the Corporation set up around 111 immunisation centres. Bangar said that although the effects of Covid have diminished, senior citizens should use these centres to take their third dose for increased immunity against the virus.

The target of NMMC was to vaccinate 11.07 lakh population. In the age group of 18 to 45 years, 8,41,886 have received their first dose and 7,30,826 received the second dose. In the age group of 45 to 60, a total of 2,45,086 beneficiaries received their first dose and 2,31,853 received their second dose. Meanwhile, 1,00,011 beneficiaries above the age of 60 received their first and 99,663 received second dose and 21,420 of them took their precautionary dose as well.

Among the frontline workers (FLW), 30,867 received their first and 22,051 received their second dose, while among Health Care Workers (HCW), 34,494 and 23,061 received their first and second doses respectively. A total of 7,139 and 7,241 HCW and FLW took their precautionary doses respectively.

While planning the inoculation, special sessions were organised by the corporation to give priority to the immunisation of the risky beneficiaries (superspreaders). Vaccination of 18,564 superspreaders, including medical store staff (746), hotel staff (5,826), salon and beauty parlour staff (1,266), petrol pump staff (428), toll naka staff (257), as well as Household Gas Distributors (236), potential female and male workers (2,864), auto rickshaw/taxi drivers (4,385), and society watchmen (2,556) were conducted through various sessions.

Similarly, special vaccination campaigns were conducted for the homeless (120), transgenders (124) and sex workers (98). “This kind of planning ensures that none from any strata of the society is deprived,” Bangar added.
