Raj Thackeray attacks Koshiyari for remarks on Shivaji
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Wednesday came down heavily on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari for his remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and said he lacks knowledge of great personalities
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Wednesday came down heavily on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari for his remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and said he lacks knowledge of great personalities.
Thackeray also said that people are tired of both the ruling and opposition parties. He alleged that the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was not interested in conducting civic elections early this year and hence, used the excuse of OBC reservation to postpone the polls. “The elections will be held only after Diwali.”
Addressing MNS workers in Pune on the occasion of party’s 16th foundation day, Thackeray said, “Does he (Koshiyari) understand Shivaji Maharaj or Ramdas Swami? Why does he talk of something which he is unaware of?”
He added, “Neither did Shivaji Maharaj say that Ramdas Swami was his guru nor did Ramdas Swami say that Shivaji Maharaj was his disciple. Such remarks only reduce the valour of one and the scholarly work of the other. No one has written such scholarly account of Shiv Chhatrapati like Ramdas Swami.”
Thackeray also termed Koshiyari’s remarks on the child marriage of social reformers Savitribai and Jyotirao Phule uncalled for, claiming that child marriages were the norm during those times.
The Governor’s office refused to comment.
Last month, Koshyari found himself amidst controversy over his remarks that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would have been nothing without his guru Samarth Ramdas.
The MNS chief also attacked the ruling MVA and the opposition. He even mimicked Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. “They do not talk of jobs, women issues, or education but only abuse each other. What example are they setting for future generations?”
Thackeray said his current speech was just a teaser and he would deliver the real one on the occasion of Gudi Padwa at Shivaji Park.
Asking party supporters to celebrate Shiv Jayanti on March 21 with great fanfare, he said like other festivals such as Ganeshotsav, Shiv Jayanti should be celebrated as per the Hindu calendar and not according to the official date of February 19.
