Rajesh Aggarwal takes charge as Maharashtra chief secretary

MUMBAI: Rajesh Aggarwal, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, assumed charge as Maharashtra’s new chief secretary on Sunday, succeeding Rajesh Kumar, who retired the same day after a three-month extension beyond his scheduled retirement on August 30.

Aggarwal’s appointment was announced by the state government on Friday. A seasoned bureaucrat with extensive experience in both state and central administrations, he was repatriated to Maharashtra on October 28 from the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, where he served as secretary for persons with disabilities. He had been on central deputation since January 2015.

After taking charge at Mantralaya, Aggarwal said he would “continue to work effectively for the development and progress of Maharashtra.”
