2 arrested for smuggling 37kg cannabis to Noida in couriered sarees

Noida: Two men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly smuggling 37kg cannabis worth 25 lakh from West Bengal to Noida by hiding it inside couriered sarees bundles, police said.

The suspects, aged 26 and 24, are originally from Ayodhya and were residing in Mayur Vihar, Delhi, said officials.

Following a tip-off about two men involved in cannabis had arrived in Sector 17 on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, Sector 20 police station team laid a trap and arrested them, said Manisha Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Noida

“The suspects used to procure cannabis from West Bengal through courier services. They would place orders for sarees, and cannabis was concealed in the boxes to smuggle and use fake address to receive the parcels,” the ADCP added.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Sector 20 Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
