According to the police, the deceased, identified as Ritik Rathore, a resident of Firozabad, fell from the 25th floor of the building while trying to dismantle the temporary lift around 4.15pm on Monday.

Dinesh Kumar Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, said, “The engineer of the private firm that had installed the temporary lift was called by the builder firm on Monday to dismantle the lift as a permanent full-service lift had been installed at the building. During the process, the supporting system could not bear the load of the lift, which crashed to the ground from the 25th floor with Rathore in it.”

Construction workers at the spot immediately informed the police and took the engineer to a private hospital where Rathore was declared dead on arrival, said officials.

“The family members of the deceased have been informed and they are on their way to the police station to submit a complaint. Once the complaint is received, an FIR will be registered against those responsible for the death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, taking cognisance of the matter, police chief Laxmi Singh ordered that an FIR be lodged in the case and those responsible for the accident be arrested.

According to an official, the temporary lift was installed for a one year period at the site and after the tenure completion, it was being removed by the service provider company when the mishap took place.
