Ghaziabad: The police on Wednesday arrested seven people allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a three-month-old boy from his house in Sahibabad near Tila Morh on August 9 to sell him to a couple in Haryana, an officer said.

“On the day of the incident, my wife had gone to a local market while I was also busy with household work. The suspect sneaked into our house and took the child. One of our neighbours saw them taking the child. Later, when my child was not seen anywhere, we approached the police for help,” the child’s father told HT.

The probe found that a suspect couple allegedly picked the infant from his house on the afternoon of August 9 and handed him over to two persons – a 35-year-old resident of Panipat, and a 40-year-old resident of Behta Hajipur in Loni.

“The two persons further handed the child over to three individuals, including a 58-year-old woman and two men aged 38 and 40, who acted as carriers and reside in the nearby Shamli district. The child was then to be handed over to suspects in Haryana. A deal was struck for ₹5-6 lakh. The police traced the suspects using CCTV and surveillance,” said Atul Kumar Singh, ACP of Shalimar Garden circle.

Police said the suspects were arrested from Farrukhnagar near Tila Morh in Ghaziabad, and the child was safely rescued.

“The suspects were keeping a watch on the movement of the child’s parents and other family members. They received a demand from a couple for a child. About one and a half years ago, the suspects also facilitated the sale of a minor girl. The police are trying to trace the child and also trying to find out the previous criminal records of the suspects,” the ACP added.
