Door-to-door cleanliness campaign begins in Greater Noida

The Greater Noida authority initiated a ‘walk to dustbin’ campaign where officials conducted door-to-door awareness drives.

The campaign aims to promote designated public dustbins and citizens are advised to dump garbage on them instead of littering the roads. The campaign also includes penalising residents who throw waste on roads, repair and maintenance of drains and other civic issues. Officials will choose a sector in Greater Noida every week and focus on cleanliness measures.
The campaign began from Sector Alpha 2 on Saturday morning and included authority officials along with resident welfare association (RWA) members and representatives from social groups such as ‘Active Citizens’ and ‘Feedback Foundation’ that helps the authority with sanitation campaigns.
“The campaign is a holistic programme for the entire sector Alpha 2, where officials will have first-hand experience of the issues that are being faced by the residents. This will not only include inspection of sanitation facilities, but also a complete overhaul with repair of drains, removing waste from unofficial dumping spots and making people aware of the cleanliness drive. We will urge people to dump garbage on the designated dustbins and keep the roads clean,” said Narendra Bhooshan, chief executive officer of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA).
The street vendors and shopkeepers in the sector were instructed to keep two separate dustbins for dry and wet garbage and ensure that the areas around them are clean.
“We have informed shopkeepers that they will be fined if areas round their shops are not clean. Additionally, we earmarked smaller spots that are used as unofficial dumping sites. We are getting these cleaned so that they can’t be used anymore,” said Salil Yadav, a senior project engineer with the GNIDA.
Yadav added that the sector will be closely monitored for the next one week and all sanitation related complaints will be resolved during this time. “A written satisfaction letter will also be obtained from the RWAs. If this work is not done, the sanitation contractors will be penalised”, he added.
Meanwhile, the RWAs can also lodge complaints regarding the maintenance of the sectors, including parks, roads, lights or community centres. The officials will make a report and submit it to the Greater Noida CEO and the concerned work circle that will have to resolve it.
