Man hurt after colleague attacks him with acid outside Noida office

The victim, identified as Karan (known by first name only), has been discharged from a hospital after receiving treatment for the injuries and is stable now, said police

A 28-year-old man sustained burn injuries on his neck and hands after his fellow colleague hurled a bottle of acid at him outside their office in Phase-3 area of Noida. The suspect was arrested by the Gautam Budh Nagar police on Thursday after an FIR was registered at the Phase-3 police station on a complaint by the victim.

The victim, identified as Karan (known by first name only), has been discharged from a hospital after receiving treatment for the injuries and is stable now, said police. According to the police, the incident took place on March 21 outside the company office in Sector 67, Noida.

“Police received information on Tuesday evening that a man has allegedly attacked another man with acid. Police team rushed to the spot and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Doctors stated his condition is stable. An FIR under Section 326 b (voluntarily throwing or attempting to throw acid, etc) of the Indian Penal Code against Lalit was registered,” said Amit Pratap Singh, assistant commissioner of police-I, Noida.

Lalit was arrested by the police on Thursday. “During interrogation, the suspect told us that he procured acid from a battery shop,” said Singh.

Police probe has found that the suspect was jealous of the victim allegedly over his close friendship with a woman colleague.

“Preliminary investigations have found that Lalit didn’t like Karan’s close friendship with a woman colleague and he threw acid on him in a fit of rage. The woman’s statement is being recorded to find out if she was also being harassed by the suspect. On the basis of her statements, more sections can be added to the FIR. Further investigations into the case is underway,” added Singh

The suspect was sent to judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate.
