UP Roadways bus carrying 15 passengers catches fire on Yamuna Expressway

Gautam Budh Nagar chief fire officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey said they dispatched fire service unit after a video of incident was posted by a commuter on Twitter

GREATER NOIDA: An Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus carrying 15 passengers caught fire while on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida on Thursday, said officials.

The bus was going from Noida towards Jewar and caught fire on the expressway near the 24km-milestone (Twitter/ImHari49456150)

Chief fire officer of Gautam Budh Nagar Pradeep Kumar Chaubey said the fire department was alerted about the incident through social media.

“A commuter posted a video of the burning bus on Yamuna Expressway around 3.50 pm following which the fire department was alerted about the same. Taking quick action, a fire service unit left from Ecotech-1 fire station and reached the spot,” said Chaubey.

The bus was going from Noida towards Jewar and caught fire on the expressway near the 24km-milestone under Rabupura police station jurisdiction.

“By the time fire department’s fire service unit reached the spot at around 4pm, the fire had already been extinguished by the fire service units of the Jewar toll plaza and Jaypee Infratech, that stations fire service units for safety purposes. The driver of the vehicle had dialed the emergency number following which these fire service units reached the spot and extinguished the fire,” Chaubey said.

He added that no one was injured in the incident as the bus driver, staffers and passengers got off the bus after smoke started coming out of its engine.
