10th day of Moharram: Processions taken out peacefully in Braj region amid tight security
Tazia procession on the tenth day of Moharram was taken out from Old Imambada in Shahganj area in Agra on Tuesday at 8am under the aegis of ‘Anzuman-e-Panjtani’
Processions were taken out in traditional manner on the occasion of Ashura, the 10th day of Moharram, in various districts of Braj region on Tuesday. Police and administration remained on vigil all through the day with drones deployed to keep proper surveillance.

“Tazia procession on the tenth day of Moharram was taken out from Old Imambada in Shahganj area in Agra on Tuesday at 8am under the aegis of ‘Anzuman-e-Panjtani’ and moved through Ladli Katra crossing, Rui Ki Mandi crossing, and Arjun Nagar crossing before concluding at Karbala Sarai Khwaza where these tazias were buried in a traditional manner,” said Amir Ahmed, the chief patron of ‘Anzuman-e-Panjtani’ in Agra.
“The believers of Imam Hussain, moving bare-foot in black attire, raised the slogan of ‘Ya Hussain Ya Hussain’ as they expressed their grief on martyrdom of Imam Hussain and expressed their commitment to follow his ideals,” said Amir Ahmed.
“As a tradition, ‘Majlis-sham-e gariban’ was organised at Old Imambada a night earlier where Maulana Manzar Sadiq gave the details of torture faced by family of Imam Hussain,” said Ahmed.
In Aligarh, various smaller processions from Imambada in Medical Colony, National Colony, Jamalpur gathered at Shamshad market in Aligarh and moved as a bigger procession.
Elaborate arrangements were made by police and administration in view of Moharram and Tiranga Yatra on the day. Sufficient deployment of police force was made in Aligarh with special focus on sensitive areas having mixed population.
Water tanks were stationed to distribute ‘sharbat’ (sweet water) to those taking part in processions.
In Firozabad, 1,500 policemen, and one company of PAC was deployed and drones were used to keep an eye on day’s proceedings. Police had issued warning to those communicating provocative messages on social media.
