Allahabad University gets 11 new teachers, 74 non-teaching staff
The importance of the recruitment of non-teaching staff on Saturday can be understood by the fact that it was way back in 1964 when AU had last recruited non-teaching employees.
Apex decision-making body of Allahabad University (AU) —the executive council (EC) of Allahabad University on Thursday approved appointment against 74 vacant non-teaching positions along with 11 new faculty members in two departments, on Saturday.
This took the number of teachers appointed so far to 288 and a number of non-teaching staff to an impressive 336 during just past one-and-a-half years as part of a recruitment exercise kick-started after the present vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava took charge of a staff and teacher-starved institution in November 2020.

The EC held an important meeting on Saturday during which the names of 14 candidates selected for teaching positions in the Economics and Defence Studies departments as recommended by the selection committees were approved after opening the envelopes of the panels’ recommendations for these subjects.
The appointments made in the department of Economics include one associate professor, and eight assistant professors while in the department of Defence and Strategic Studies, two assistant professors have been appointed.
One envelope of the Defence Studies department, however, still remains closed under the directions of the Allahabad High Court. Five teachers in the department of Economics have been promoted from stage II to stage III assistant professors.
The council members unanimously applauded and appreciated the non-stop efforts put in by the vice-chancellor prof Sangita Srivastava and her team in getting the University a new lease of life with more than 600 appointments. They also appreciated the complete transparency and high credibility of the entire selection process, informed AU officials.
The EC also approved the proposal that the new building for the chemistry department which is coming up in the Science Faculty will also house the department of biochemistry.
“The EC also approved that Deepshikha Sonkar, teaching faculty from the department of Economics shall be put on ‘No Pay- No Work’ as per the recommendations of a duly constituted committee upon a regulation sent by UGC a committee has been constituted to decipher and accordingly be adapted in the University statute,” informed AU, PRO, prof Jaya Kapoor. The committee was looking into the matter where in she had taken maternity leave but has not joined her duties and remained absent continuously even after her maternity leave got long over, she added.
EC also approved the setting up of a research advisory committee in every department to monitor the quality of the research work being done in the department regularly.
