FIR against Atiq’s kin for assault, demanding extortion

Dhumanganj police have lodged an FIR against mafiosi-turned-politician and former MP Atiq Ahmad’s relative Imran, his brother Zeeshan and six others for allegedly demanding extortion besides assault, POCSO Act, SC/ST Act and other relevant sections. The case has been registered on complaint of a Dalit man on Sunday, police said.

It is alleged that the accused are trying to grab the property of the victim.

In his complaint given to the police, the man claimed that Atiq’s brother-in-law Imran, his brother Zeeshan and aides Sameer, Sanki, Meraj, Maqsud and some others barged into his house in Dhumanganj area on October 31 last year. The accused assaulted the family members and even opened fire to create terror. They allegedly molested the victim’s minor daughter and threatened to abduct her if the complainant does not transfer his property in their name. The accused also demanded extortion of ₹20 lakh from him. The complainant further claimed that he was not sending his daughter to school out of fear of the accused who are historysheeters.

ACP Dhumanganj NN Singh said an FIR has been registered under 13 sections of IPC and further action would be carried out after investigations.

It is worth mentioning that one of the accused, property dealer Zeeshan aka Janu has lodged an FIR against former MP Atiq Ahmad’s son Ali and his associates for assault and demanding extortion in December 2021. Some of the accused were arrested but Ali evaded arrest for many months before he surrendered in the court.
