Prayagraj unit of the Special Task Force (STF) busted an inter-state gang of smugglers and arrested four of its members with 70 kilograms of marijuana worth ₹18 lakh on Tuesday. The gang members used to bring the contraband from Orissa and supplied it to local dealers, officials said here on Wednesday.

STF DSP Navendu Kumar said acting on a tip off, the STF team under inspector Anil Kumar Singh laid a trap near Devkund temple culvert on Tuesday. Two persons in a car reached the spot where two other persons were present on a motorcycle. The STF team surrounded the suspects and nabbed them. Sacks of marijuana were found in the car and motorcycle which the smugglers were using. The arrested smugglers were identified as Rajnish Srivastava, Iqbal Ahmad aka Pappu, Manish Kumar Yadav and Vinod Kumar Yadav, all residents of Manda area, Kumar shared.
Interrogation from them revealed that Rajnish Srivastava was the kingpin of the gang while Iqbal used to act as his chief assistant. Manish and Vinod had brought the marijuana from Sonpur in Orissa on behest of Rajnish and Iqbal. Manish used to get ₹50,000 each time they delivered marijuana to Rajnish. Manish confessed to have brought marijuana from Orrissa earlier on January 6.
The delivered marijuana was supplied to local dealers by Rajnish and Iqbal on high rates. The gang was working in an organised way and have supplied marijuana worth several lakhs during last one year. A case has been registered against the gang members under NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).
