Government primary, upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh to open at 8am from today
Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Basic Shiksha Parishad, Pratap Singh Baghel issued orders in this regard to all the Basic Shiksha Adhikari’s (BSAs) on July 24.
The Uttar Pradesh government-run primary and upper primary schools in the state functioning under the state Basic Education Board will operate from 8am to 2pm from Tuesday.

The missive, a copy of which is with HT, stated that after the summer vacations, the primary and upper primary schools were physically opened from June 16. But due to the extreme heat wave prevailing at the time, the school timings were kept from 7.30am to 1.30pm.
But due to the change in the weather now, all these schools will be opened from 8am to 2pm as per the predetermined time with effect from July 26, the missive said.
The order, copies of which have also been sent to the special secretary (Basic Education) and director general (school education) of the state besides the education directorate (Basic) in Lucknow, specified that morning assemblies and yoga practice will be held on each working day from 8am to 8.15am. The interval would be observed from 10.30am to 11am.
The change in school timings will impact around 1.8 crore (18 million) students studying at 1.68 lakh government primary and upper primary schools spread across 75 districts of the state and around 6 lakh teachers teaching in these schools.
The order further stated that from October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, schools will operate on winter timings and they would function from 9am to 3pm with morning assemblies and yoga practice being held on all working days from 9am to 9.15am and interval from 12 noon to 12.30pm.
