The apology comes two days after a heated verbal exchange between Justice Mauna Bhatt and Justice Vaishnav during a high court hearing on Monday.
“Before we begin a new session, what happened on Monday, shouldn’t have happened. I was wrong. I am sorry for that. We begin a new session. It shouldn’t have happened, I don’t know, I was wrong,” Justice Vaishnav said in an open court on Wednesday.
During a court session on Monday, Justice Vaishnav, the senior judge on the bench had a heated exchange of words with the puisne judge, Justice Bhatt following her expression of disagreement through a whispered comment.
A video clip of the incident on social media showed Justice Vaishnav and Justice Bhatt presiding over a bench, considering a matter. They then appear to have some disagreement over what order should be passed in the case.
During the exchange, Vaishnav remarked, “You differ, yaar! You have differed in one, differ in the other (also).” To which, Bhatt responded, “It is not a question of differing.” Vaishnav suggested, “Then do not murmur... Then you pass a separate order.”
Subsequently, Vaishnav abruptly left the bench, stating that the court will not be hearing any other cases.
The high court was closed on Tuesday on account of Dussehra.
