Inter-District School Judo Championship: Gurdaspur grabs the champions trophy

Ludhiana government school student brought laurels in the 45kg category of the Inter-District School Judo Championship. Prem Shankar, a student of GSSS Sekhewal representing Ludhiana, clinched the gold medal, while Taranjit Singh from Bathinda obtained the second position

Gurdaspur district bagged the overall champion’s title of the Inter-District School Judo championship, which concluded on Friday at Guru Nanak Stadium here. Patiala and Hoshiarpur districts obtained the second and third positions, respectively.

Over 200 boys and girls from as many as 16 districts— from both government and private schools— participated in the tournament.

In boys’ matches for seven different weight classes held on Friday, Sahil representing Patiala and Taranjit Singh of Bathinda bagged the first and second position, respectively, in the 40kg weight class.

In the 50kg event, Saurabh Kumar from Patiala and Neeraj Kumar from Hoshiarpur bagged the first and second positions, respectively,

Parveen Kumar of Gurdaspur and Charandas of Fazilka obtained the first and second positions, respectively, in the 60kg event. In the final round of the 55kg weight class, Harsh Kumar of Gurdaspur and Gurpreet Singh from Patiala secured the first and second positions, respectively.

Pranav Pathak from Hoshiarpur and Ajay Gill from Gurdaspur emerged victorious in the 73kg event, claiming the first and second positions, respectively. Mohit of Hoshiarpur and Pankaj from Fazilka won gold and silver medals, respectively, in the 66kg event.

Ludhiana government school student brought laurels in the 45kg category. Prem Shankar, a student of GSSS Sekhewal representing Ludhiana, clinched the gold medal, while Taranjit Singh from Bathinda obtained the second position.

Coordinator of the event Harmeet Walia said, “The championships for different sports, including basketball, roller-skating, boxing, netball, are being held in different districts of the state. Players who have clinched first positions will play in the national level championship.”

The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates.
