Ludhiana: Inter-state gang of drug peddlers busted, 30kg ganja recovered

The police on Tuesday busted a gang of inter-state drug smugglers on Sherpur Chowk here and arrested four accused, recovering 30kg ganja and impounded an SUV from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Subay Kumar, 25, of CMC Colony, Hundal Chowk, Bhamia Kalan; Suraj Gupta, 30, of Khokha Market in Jamalpur; Om Prakash, 30, of Ram Nagar, Mundian and Rahul Mahajan, 33, of Jamalpur.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, operation) Sameer Verma said the team, led by inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, station house officer, Division number 6, arrested the accused following a tip off.

The accused were heading towards Ludhiana in a Toyota Innova, following which the team installed a checkpoint on Sherpur Chowk and intercepted the accused. When frisked, the team recovered the contraband from their possession.

Brar said the accused Kumar, who works here in a hosiery unit, brings the contraband from Bihar and Orissa and further supplies it to other three accused who then sell the contraband to their customers.

A case under Sections 20, 25, 29, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Division number 6 police station.
